Abstract
Description
MSB 73 is a well-organized and planned manuscript cookbook. The handwriting is clear, the recipes contain well-marked headings, and the content is given adequate space on the page. Each recipe is numbered and indexed. The majority of the recipes are preparations for meat and fish. Soups, puddings, and cakes are also adequately represented, as are instructions on pickling and preserving food stuffs. Some rather opulent recipes make an appearance, such as a savory cake meant to replicate a beehive. Observations on proper cooking techniques are scattered throughout. There are no names associated with the creation of the cookbook, though at least two individuals are involved in its creation as the recipes and index are in two different hands.
