Abstract
As part of its effort to enhance its Higher Education Strategy, the Qatar Foundation (QF) has explored approaches to increase interdisciplinary and cross-disciplinary experiences for undergraduate and graduate students within its partner universities based in Education City, in Doha, the capital of Qatar. These approaches are built around sharing best practices and effective policies that encourage interdisciplinary curricula and programs as well as research collaborations between different academic entities within Education City.
A key challenge that may slow or even impede interdisciplinary and cross-disciplinary research efforts within QF is the difficulty of locating internal collaborators because of the decentralized nature of the university branch campuses.
Currently, the information and profiles of researchers and faculty members based at QF are hosted in their respective college websites. Therefore, a researcher interested in establishing a collaboration with a fellow researcher in a particular area or discipline would need to navigate several websites to find a potential collaborator.
As there is a continuous push for more interdisciplinary collaborations in the areas of research and teaching, there is a need to find ways of encouraging this endeavor. Having the profiles and research interests of researchers and faculty members hosted under one online platform has the potential to facilitate communication among researchers and thus promote the chances for interdisciplinary collaborations. The author of this Capstone Project has designed a single platform that will house all the profiles of faculty and researchers who are based in Education City.
