Description
One of the Baltimore's most important early publishers, Fielding Lucas Jr. printed maps, atlases, primers, and drawing books. The city's booming population growth can be traced in the placard beneath the compass rose. The hand-coloring and numbers designate administrative wards across the city blocks. Vacant spaces are left blank, while built up areas are shaded. Also note the growing set of indexed buildings and the Baltimore and Ohio rail line running through the city. This images was produced from an original copy of the map held as part of the Baetjer collection. In the spring of 2017 the Venable LLP law firm generously donated to the Sheridan Libraries most of the maps, vies and prints in the Baetjer Collection.
