Description
Description from Mapping Maryland: "This German language version produced by de Bry for his book, "Dreyzehender Thiel Americae", is the third derivative from Johns Smith's map."
Description from "Maryland from the Willard Hackerman Map Collection", George Peabody Library Exhibit Oct. 9, 2018 - March 16, 2019: "The de Bry publishing firm sought to capitalize on the popularity of John Smith's map by publishing this German language version. The image of the Susquehanna Indian, described by Smith as giant-like, is here repeated in a less natural pose, but still carrying a newly hunted pig. The pigs ran wild and became an increasingly abundant food source for English settlers."
