Abstract
The main subject of this thesis is the recently discovered high-temperature superconductivity (SC) in iron-based pnictides and chalcogenides, which has rekindled enormous interest in the field of high-Tc superconductors. These layer iron superconductors have several quasi-2D, disconnected Fermi pockets, composed of Fe 3d electrons. This unusual configuration of Fermi pockets can change rapidly with varying doping, and thus lead to a very rich and interesting phase diagram both in the normal and superconducting states. We will discuss some properties in the framework of itinerant electron models and compare our results with experiments.
